We have officially passed the six month mark of our wedding and are now in to ‘The Final Countdown…’ (cue Europe’s 80′s cheese-fest tune – oh I’m such a geek!) where plans are now being finalised and the last bit and pieces booked! Hurrah!

The last 18 months have flown by and having been reticent to confirm plans too far in advance, I’ve only recently started ploughing through, transforming ideas into reality. With that in mind I thought it would be nice to share some wedding goodness and offer a sneeky peak into our home and out plans. Cue ‘team wedding’…

Images above – Our save-the-date cards, created by us, inspired by many and printed by vista print…for £7.99! A delicious {pink} chocolate and cointreau cake pop sent to me from the lovely Andrea at Cake By Sugar I am now officially hooked and will be ordering some for the wedding! My gorgeous friend and bridesmaid Laura modelling a Vivienne of Holloway frock at the Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair – she’ll be wearing a similar non-bridal shade for our nuptuals. A peek at our beautiful Love Birds created by the uber talented Katy Howieson (you’ll see them in full garb after 17/09/11!) And although they won’t be at the wedding – our darling boys Milo + Toby have been assisting erm lending their ‘helpful’ paws to our wedding plans! All images via my iphone!

I’d describe myself as quite a laid-back person, easy-going and not one to ‘stress’ too much, but there’s something about planning a wedding that alters how you deal with things…and this past week I’ve aknowledged that I’m in danger of becoming one of those people in pursuit of happiness, rather than someone embracing the happiness of the here and now!

Fairly minor upsets, like the double booking of wedding suppliers,  is something I thought I’d brush off – yet I’ve turned them into major ‘issues’, snotting and bawling my way through emails requesting hurried quotes from others, whilst claiming my fiance will never understand how my “vision” of our ‘perfect’ day is slipping away….

So imagine how blindsided I felt to hear my Groom state that he believed no matter how much I pain-stakingly organised our wedding, it would be far from perfect! But, I have to admit, after hearing him out – I actually think he has a point!

He argued that it was madness to try and define the ‘best day of our lives’ in one day and when I pointed out that I was actually trying to create the perfect weekend – he scoffed at me again! You see, I’ve been trying to create this amazing, three day event – not just for ourselves, but for our guests too…as if I could somehow control how they’d feel!

That’s a lot of pressure to put on a celebration…and I realise now, a huge disservice to our loved ones….who come rain or shine, will make the best of our wedding. Why? Because they love us.

It also made me realise how close I’ve become to sabotaging my own celebration – and as for my wedding “vision”…? I do recall writing on here, many posts ago, should “wild horses stampede the venue and ruin my shabby chic dreams – who cares? Life too short”. Indeed. And so is a wedding day.

This last week of wedding planning has been the most fun yet, as I’m starting to book and create all of the fun stuff that’ll make our wedding unique! It has inspired me to write a little about how to set about gathering wedding ideas to create a day that’s as individual as you are! Here’s my top tips for getting started on your special day…

Credits: Boots, Anna Kinchen Photography, Tashes, One Wed

Think about the time of year – when booking your wedding date, have a think about the time of year that you feel connected to as a couple. Just because Summer tends to be ‘wedding season’ it doesn’t mean your day needs to fall during the sunny months. We’ve chosen September as we met in the Autumn and both love the colour palette…I’m also v.fair and allergic to wasp stings…so I’d be in danger of getting burnt or worse still, sporting hives on a Summer wedding day.

Stuck for ideas at first? Find a venue that you love and led it lead your initial plans…there’s not point in shoe-horning a vintage inspired art deco day into a farm-yard setting after all! You can find inspiration in the unlikeliest of places…an orchard can offer a wedding awash with zesty colours and fruit themed details, or the history of a venue can also dictate the style…a Georgian manor house lends itself perfectly to an Austen inspired day!

Do some word association with your man – each write down ten things that immediately spring to mind, when you think of your wedding day…it’ll help you prioritise what’s important and should also ensure that you both get involved. We realised that a relaxing atmosphere, good food and free booze were our biggest priority!

Filter. There will be expectations and opinions from family and friends that will confuse you. So, your second cousin is expecting her kid to be Bridesmaid, your brother thinks a cravat is the epitome of wedding style and your Mother-in-Law wants her best mate to make the cake…smile, say “thanks for the offer/your opinion/input - I haven’t worked out the details yet/I’ve already booked that…we’re going in a different direction” and then avoid the subject for the next nine months. That might not be the most mature way of dealing with things…but it’s what I’m sticking too!

Keep evolving your wedding ideas! Details will change as the months pass. Try to adapt with them – compromise without sacrificing too much. You’ll sleep better for it.

ENJOY! This should be the last time you plan your own wedding *fingers crossed* - and most marrieds tell me it passes very quickly…so relish the planning process, after all, it’s probably the biggest event you’ll ever be the centre of!

Yesterday’s real wedding, featuring Bride Carley and Groom Ian showing off their love for music on their wedding day, inspired me to go in search of musical wedding decor.

If you’re a musical couple getting wed, why not introduce it into your day? It could be as simple as a G-Clef stamp on the back of an invitation envelope, or as thoughtful as a retro inspired ‘mix tape’ for favours. Here’s some of the music inspired decor I found…

The marriage has been registered, venue booked and a swatch of my wedding dress has just arrived – it has finally dawned on me that this is really happening. I am getting married.

We have 10 months till W-day, yet I suddenly feel that time is slipping away very rapidly…within a year, I’ll be a ‘wife’…’Mrs C’.

There is no doubt in my mind that marrying my man is the best decision I’ve ever made, in fact, it feels like we married years ago. We have the mortgage, the two fur babies, even a joint savings account…but I’m suddenly starting to feel overwhelmed. I’m having a bit of a paddy…

Image via whispy.com

I really can’t believe that I’m old enough to get wed – to actually be someones wife. Stupid I know. My friends have done it – some even have children. My own brother is now married. Hell’s bells! I’m twenty-eight and will be twenty-nine when we say our vows…but I still feel 18 years old!

I know I look like a grown-up and even sometimes sound like a grown-up (though utility companies still ask to speak to the bill payer when I answer the phone) and I cope with all other adult situations with measured maturity…

My point is, how much do we change in a marriage – if at all? Do you married ladies and gents still feel paused at 18? Do you ever get used to being called Mrs X,Y or Z? Or do you sometimes feel like you’re still ‘playing’ grown-ups?

My great aunt said something to me (aged 87) not long before she died and it’s resonated with me ever since, “I still feel like a teenager and keep wondering when I’ll be found out”. Quite.

Today’s offering is extra special, as it’s the first ‘real wedding’ to be featured on Boho Bride! The past three weeks have been as rewarding they have been hard, grafting away in hope of  making this wedding blog a success;  so on Friday, when I received an email from Kate Fletcher, offering me these beautiful images to feature on my ‘stylish’ site…I knew all my hard work had all been worth-while.

Kate runs the successful wedding and event’s company, Kate Fletcher Events and can count TV presenter Jimmy Doherty (of Jimmy’s Farm fame) amongst her happy clients.

The wedding I’m about to show you belongs to Sibyl and Jon, who got married on the 3rd of July this year. Kate submitted this wedding following my appeal to feature and celebrate the growing trend for relaxed, and stylish shabby chic weddings…and I’m sure you’ll agree, this wedding is ‘shabby chic’ personified.

Some words from Kate…“Sibyl and Jon are two Architects and such a great couple…and Sibyl was the most laid back bride I have ever met…

They got married at the local church by family friend, Rev James McKeran and arrived by tractor through the cornfields to Sibyl’s parents house for a drinks reception in the orchard.

Jon was particular interested in Robin Hood, so I suggested they had medieval archers as an alternative to garden games. This was a great hit, especially with the many children attending the wedding! A folk band played while the guests enjoyed glasses of Prosecco and Elderflower Presse and Bruschetta’s served on vintage platters.

They had a Hog Roast for the wedding breakfast which was visibly cooked over charcoal and served on platters with apples and seasonal herbs. After the meal, they had Damson Vodka for the toast that Sibyl and Jon had made themselves.

Later in the evening, a fire pit was lit and guests danced the night away and drank from tankards they filled themselves from large kegs”.

I adore this wedding and I put that down to how personal it is.  Taking her inspiration from Sibyl and Jon’s characters and tastes, Kate has created a wedding that’s brimming with individual details which makes this day as unique as they are. A celebration that truly represents this creative, laid-back couple!

There are so many incredible ideas to evoke your creative juices…the fire pit, goblets, herb centrepieces…and let’s not forget the archer! I cannot fail to be excited by this wedding. So a huge thank-you to Kate Fletcher for sending this my way – and to photographer Gareth Davies for his stunning images.
