Honeymoon {dis}Harmony

My Husband-in-waiting and I have spent most of our engagement debating where we will spend the days that follow our wedding. We both had so many honeymoon ideas, we were finding it difficult to choose. That, paired with our conflicting opinions as to what constitutes a great holiday, made for some serious honeymoon disharmony in our household!

For my beloved, it was grand plans; he wanted the kind of geta-way wedding dreams are made of, a budget blow-out, with huts on stilts, clear waters and a mile of white sand outside our door…not to mention the personal butler and fluffy white towels twisted to mimic elegant swans!

I’m more of a spit and sawdust kinda girl. Happiest holidaying on a shoestring, whilst I try to cram in as much of a country as possible…all the time avoiding the sun and therefore avoiding the inevitable prickly heat and hives that are sure to ensue.

A couple completely compatible in all area’s – bar the most defining holiday of our life so far!

Many heated conversations have followed, with both of us ‘pitching’ honeymoon ideas, desperately trying to sell them to each other. My Mr nearly convinced me on a week’s get-away in ‘mooners heaven, till we acknowledged that we’d be spending over half the amount of money that we’re spending on our wedding…I of course, looked like a penny pincher and naive idealist as I desperately tried to convince him {and myself} that backpacking Asia would be the ultimate holiday experience to cram in ahead of having kids…

The long and the short of it is that we finally agreed on the blatantly obvious option and the one element of married life we must whole-heartedly embrace – compromise. A week in each others utopia. And so we have finally booked our honeymoon. My choice, a week playing tour guide in the hustle and bustle of my childhood home Hong Kong! And for Boho Groom? Well, he didn’t get his stilts, but I’m sure a week on a tiny Malayan island will soften the blow. And I just might put in a request for swans fashioned out of fluffy, white towels…

Great compromise! There’s so much worry about getting the honeymoon ‘right’. We went around in circles about where to go and how much to spend. Finally settling on the first idea we put on the table: Bali. We had a week off after our wedding in August to enjoy the sights of Wales and we’ve got two weeks in Bali coming up at the end of April. You will have a fab time. Enjoy! x

Thank you! What a lovely way to do it…that must’ve really extended the excitement for you. Bali looks beautiful – I hope you have a magical time! X

I laughed out loud at this post! J and I are very different where a holiday is concerned. He likes to be on a beach under the hottest rays covered in baby oil, whilst I head for the markets in a floating skirt and large straw hat!

Perhaps we should pair them off on a sun fuelled holiday and head to a vibrant destination together Kate! I’ll pack the factor 50 x
