Traditional English Wedding with a Colonial African Twist – Mood Board for Ivy

Today’s board is dedicated to Ivy, who contacted me with a request for some help with creating the perfect palette for her traditional English wedding this August. Here’s what Ivy had to say…

“I am really struggling to get my colours to work in my head. I originally wanted a yellow wedding (I LOVE YELLOW!!!), but I found that yellow & white can be quite a flat, boring pallet. My husband-to-be ONLY likes the colour blue though (of the light variety), so I thought it’d be a nice idea to marry the two – and strangely add in a hint of creamy peach.

Matthew & I are getting married in a very cute teeny English church in Buckinghamshire & then having our reception at Hedsor House – picture green fields/big old mansion house. We’re planning on having a traditional / elegant wedding – but FUN & laid back. I’m originally from South Africa so will have a lot of family flying over for the do – thought it’d be a nice idea to mix the English with the African & have a colonial/quirky feel.”

Ivy sent me some gorgeous images to help me along the way, one was of their venue (top of the board) and I also got a peek at the couple behing this request…a seriously gorgeous pair!

My aim was to find images that softened the look – as Ivy mentioned she found the pairing of white & yellow too harsh. The blue might only add to the cool tones, so I think adding a hint of peach is an inspired idea! The beautiful venue commands respect, but by adding a vintage {colonial inspired} edge to the styling, Ivy and Matthew can afford to have some fun and include little treats like an ice-cream van or quirky {zebra print sock!} details.

Huge congratulations to Ivy and Matthew and keep us posted with your wedding news!

With Love, Boho Bride xx

I went to a wedding there last year! It’s a very grand venue. Certainly feels very weddingy. The gardens are so big, though, that everyone is very spread out and there’s so many rooms people can wander through….. hard to feel that cosy and together as a wedding group so I’d recommend trying to make some intimate moments as well as the spread out ones…. good luck!
