I had the pleasure of visiting River Cottage last week and have been battling with tree and table decor envy every since! Beautifully decorated with traditional winter flowers – the centrepieces also featured pheasant feathers…and I’ve now developed a bit of a crush on them…

<![CDATA[Getting the balance right…]]> http://www.bohobride.co.uk/?p=5129 2011-11-28T22:01:11Z 2011-11-29T06:00:18Z

Morning all,

I write this post wrapped within the comfort of my duvet as I have been confined to bed-rest by my doctor. The last few days have been horrible as I’ve been battling with a chest infection that has brought me to my knee’s – and it’s the scariness of this afternoon’s events and a life-affirming moment that soon followed that inspired me to write this post…

I have quite simply burnt my candle at both ends. Nearly six months pregnant and juggling full time hours as a content/copy writer as well as setting up my styling business and writing the blog I have spent the last three months working 13 hour days; all-the-while investing precious energy into my most exciting and beloved challenge yet – motherhood.

It took a strong and worried word from my big brother (who usually pools his energy into taking the mick out of me) to realise I needed to ask for some help and admit that I wasn’t coping too well. In fact, this is how stupid things got…aside from my roaring temperature and watery chest, I hadn’t felt my usual baby flutterings for over 24 hrs. I was worried but also sure the Dr would think I was not only paranoid but ‘weak’ I hadn’t acted on my anxieties.

An emergency apt ensued and we had a hairy few minutes where the Dr couldn’t locate baby’s heartbeat (we found it eventually – thank God!) and it all transpired that my body was so full of infection and so tired from all the extra work it’s having to do I was putting two lives at risk. I was then quite severley told off by my Doctor who has insisted I take a few days off to let my body heal…

Well, sitting here in bed has got me thinking about how us women tend to put such enormous pressures on ourselves. Yes I believe we can achieve beyond plenty and should strive to…but when it all gets a bit too much to juggle, why do we find it so hard to admit?

I am working with five brides at the moment, all of which have contacted me nearing the final stretch of their wedding plans, flustered, stressed and apologetic for needing my help so ‘late in the day’ - I find it very hard to hear Brides being so hard on themselves when you know they’ve already achieved so much and are in the midst of such important plans…

So here’s my message to all my women-folk readers – there is nothing wrong with asking for help – and there is nothing wrong with needing some time out to sit back, take stock and let your mind and body relax…lets ease up a little and reward ourselves with a bit of R&R every now and then.

…Oh, and the life-affirming bit – well about an hour after retuning home, quietly sat on the sofa I felt my first big kick from baby – a real belter and my husband finally got to feel a kick too. Baby’s timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

Anyways, lecture over…I’m off to flip my pillow over to the cold side and enjoy the calming buzz of our cats purrs.

With Love,

Sarah, Boho Bride xx

<![CDATA[A Beautiful Bohemian Home-spun Wedding…]]> http://www.bohobride.co.uk/?p=5080 2011-11-28T14:44:26Z 2011-11-28T06:04:11Z

This stunning wedding was sent to me by my dear friend Kate Fletcher of Vintage Style Hire, who knew I’d love it. Relaxed and 0h-so-boho here’s what the beautiful Bride Natasha had to say…

“David and I met when I was Fine Art student, he was one of the Fine Art lecturers at my college…. I developed a massive crush on him and once I left to go to University I basically stalked him until he took me out.

Six years later David proposed to me unexpectedly over lunch at Claridges. After too much champagne and calling everyone to let them know the good news I ended up with eight bridesmaids.

We live out in the sticks and I couldn’t think of a better venue for the reception than our garden. We got married in a quaint old church just two minutes walk from our house.

It was a very relaxed affair – David and I are super chilled so I guess the whole wedding was quite hippy.

We’re both creative so we did pretty much everything ourselves…we spent months trawling car boot sales for our 100 mismatched chairs.”

…And there’s more! Natasha is a film maker who also shoots weddings and she kindly sent me a copy of their wedding video, captured by a member of her team. Ridiculously beautiful YOU.MUST.WATCH.IT!

<![CDATA[A Relaxed Summer Wedding with hints of Blue and Mink]]> http://www.bohobride.co.uk/?p=5000 2011-11-23T09:14:17Z 2011-11-22T06:00:36Z

When Boho Bride’s newest sponsor, Louise Bjorling and her colleague Milda Vasile sent me Caaren and Jason’s gorgeous wedding teaser, I instantly knew I had to blog it. Full of beautiful details, staged by wedding planner Marie of Isabella Weddings, the tone of sumptuous decor meets a relaxed, natural vibe {chill-out tent anyone?} sits perfectly at the beautiful venue Old Alresford House…

From Bride Caaren: We wanted a day that was Elegant but relaxed. It was so important to us that our day reflected us as a couple; I know that sounds corny but we feel that we achieved it. We were the first couple to marry at Old Alresford House and as a guest it would have been impossible to not have been blown away by its beauty, so we wanted to add touches throughout the day that our guests would know would have come from our hearts as we felt that’s what made the day special.

We wanted the day to have personal touches all the way through so it was a real team effort of some great suppliers I had found and of course my friends and family. I didn’t realise how much i loved flowers until I started this process, Mel who manages Ena’s florist in Westbourne completely read my mind and came up with elegant arrangements of Dahlias (my favourite flower) and roses mixed with herbs which made the arrangements and bouquets simplistic but had real impact.

We wanted to create an atmosphere to compliment the venue without it looking too contrived. The ballroom’s drapes were duck egg blue and mink and the room itself had fantastic natural light with sash windows, so the colour theme became cream, duck egg blue and mink. We dressed the ball room with a summer’s day in mind – with jugs of antique roses and rosemary and lavender pots wrapped in lace or hessian.

My girlfriends and mums helped make all the name cards with vintage tags, stamps and ribbons and cushions for the marquee (with the promise of a cocktail or two!) and the day before the wedding bridesmaids and family helped dress the marquee which was filled with garden furniture and coffee tables I had found from vintage stores, crates and pots of garden roses and lavender, pictures of family and friends, a traditional sweet table with jars dressed by my step girls – just perfect for a glass of champagne and a mingle after the ceremony or for a good candle lit catch up with friends and family when the sun had set!

Highlights of our day included the speeches – listening to the lovely wishes of the people we love and seeing our guests enjoy each moment and my step daughters’ speeches – they were just perfect. My mum and dad – my mum looked radiant and my dad so proud…and the moment when my son ran across the room to Jason and I during the ceremony and slipped on my dress and shot across the floor, all I could see were people’s shoulders shaking with laughter!

We were also so pleased with our photographers, Louise and Milda. They hadn’t been recommended to us, we just saw their website and loved their style of photography. The pictures have just blown us away; we wanted reportage style but with a bit of difference and the ladies certainly produced!

Huge congratulations to Caaren and Jason for their beautiful day and to Boho Bride sponsor Louise Bjorling for sharing it!

Happy Friday Lovelies!

It’s been a tough week at Boho HQ – mainly due to my pesky hormones causing a perminant state of upset…I literally haven’t stopped crying for the last two days – for no other reason than my body needed too!!! Oh if you could have seen me…typing and crying, then laughing at myself, then crying again…Anyhoo – I digress. All is well again and we are excited to be having our 20 week scan this morning. Happy days indeed.

My new obsession – sparkle! I don’t know if it’s the wintry weather and impending festivities, but I can’t get enough of bling – so for all you winter Brides out there or for those reading who enjoy the idea of a little frosting us much as I do, here’s some sparkly shoes ♥
