It’s been a pleasure…

Afternoon all,

I hope everyone’s having a good week so far! Today I wanted to share with you a little project I’ve been working on for months really – and in the last few weeks it’s has come to fruition. It’s a collaborative project alongside one of my oldest and dearest friends Amry, born from something we have in common and something that we’re both trying to master the skills of – Motherhood!

Not Keeping Mum is a blog written by mothers for mothers. You can read a bit more about it and what to expect from it here.

I find writing a very cathartic experience, more often than not, if I write my troubles down, or simply jot down a to do list for the day my head becomes a lot clearer. The same can be said for Boho Bride. Initially it was an outlet for my creative ideas and later developed into a place where I could muse and vent over wedding woes as the big day approached…Well I’m sure it’s pretty clear to all that since then and since the arrival of our little boy I’ve found the blog a struggle to keep up – not so much the blogging itself - but creating content that I believe readers will enjoy…that I also enjoy!

The standard of wedding blogs continue to reach new highs daily – and to be part of that world you have to be beyond devoted. You need to be willing to live and breathe it all and whilst I adore the styling aspect of weddings {the design details still make my heart flutter} I am no longer passionate about writing about them…

And so, with a heavy heart I’m announcing the inevitable. From the end of October Boho Bride will no longer be updated. The site with remain – with it’s backlog of posts – as I still run my wedding and event design service, but for at least the near future, there will be no more new content posted  on the Boho Bride blog whilst I work out my next step in the big wide and creative world!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your support and friendship throughout. If you’re a Mum or Mum-to-be and would like to follow Amry and my journeys – we’ll see you over at NKM!

With Love,

Sarah, Boho Bride xx

Life doesn’t always live up to Instagram…

As I sit here and type the sun is beaming through our lounge window pouring light over the wild and rugged terrain of Northam Burrows in beautiful North Devon where I live. I am very blessed – it’s almost picture perfect…so perfect I am tempted to actually take a picture…and share it – yet there’s a problem…

In order to capture this stunning view to ‘share’ with my Instagram friends I’d need to re-set the scene, as I’d hate other people to catch a glimpse of the soggy muslin square strewn over the back of the sofa that’s now covering the wet patch where my son decided to projectile vomit over earlier this afternoon. Nor would I like to share the mass of tabby cat hairs stuck to the bottom of our white curtains – and all this is irrespective of the fact that the view is actually muffled by gas caught between our double glazing, so I’d have to hang out of the open window to really get a good shot!

What I’m getting at is that life isn’t always what it seems. I’ve become a little addicted to Instagram of late and it’s easy to see why – a wonderful way to connect with friends, colleagues and like minded people, it offers us all the opportunity to get creative with our camera phones and produce beautiful images of day-to-day ‘goings-ons’ that can be treasured forever – but in the last couple of days I’ve also noticed a downside to this fabulous app; seeing life through a soft-filter lens can sometimes make you feel down-right crap.

My days at the moment consist of nappy changes and feeds. My baby boy, although gorgeous, isn’t always as cute as his Instagram persona, in fact he’s down right devilish at times. I make no attempt to feature in photo’s at present, as I’m sporting nearly two inches of mousy blonde roots, my hands are dry, nails chipped and my favourite item of clothing is an M&S night shirt that I pass off as day wear as it drowns the extra stone and a half of post-baby weight I’m carrying. Our house looks like a bomb site – we’ve yet to fully unpack after moving here just ahead of Dylan’s birth, there’s baby stuff everywhere and I’ve an ironing pile the size of Everest…it’s all far from picture perfect – so when I see images of designer shoes adorning perfectly pedicured feet and home interiors that would give the finest boutique hotels a run for their money I sometimes want to throw my phone across my not-so-tidy front room.

I appreciate that the creative types I know, like, respect and follow all have an eye for the finer details and that the reason why I connect with them is in part because I’m in awe of their talents; so I expect and want them to take pictures of things that inspire – but what I’m getting at is that sometimes - for your own sanity, perhaps it’s worth stepping away from it all, instead taking stock of and enjoying the delightfully messy everyday happenings of ‘real life’.

I know I need to, because my marriage, family, life in general won’t stand up to my own scrutiny if I continue to compare it to those I gaze at through a rose-tinted lens. I am otherwise in danger of missing the fleeting moments that might happen whilst I reach for my camera in order to take a shot of a gummy smile from our baby boy, or a funny turn from our cats…or the warm glow of dawn light that fills our bedroom and lights up the dust fairies dancing over our bed…no filter can beat that kind of wonderment or beauty.

Happy Monday!

Many thanks for all your lovely emails and to those who have sent feedback – thanks so much, there’s some lovely ideas to chew over! And so back to pretty…

Oh so chic and in season for Summer weddings, hydrangeas are an enduringly popular choice of flower for weddings. Contemporary Brides are now making a stylish statement by opting for a bouquet made up exclusively of this beautiful bloom and I for one adore!

…Erm I also said I’d shamelessly plug my nomination in the category of Best Wedding Blog at the Perfect Wedding Awards 2012. Voting opens today on the Perfect Wedding Magazine website so if you fancy backing Boho Bride, get clicking…and thank you!!! xxx

Happy Monday All!

I’m not sure how many of you will be reading this due to my near three month absence, but my analytics tell me I’ve retained some incredible daily readership numbers on the blog, so thank you so very much for dropping by and showing such support. It’s good to be back.

Our little one is now a whole two months old and doing well, so it seemed an appropriate time to start posting again…though I might not be able to update every day for the first few weeks; I still find it an achievement to be out of my pj’s some days!

You may have noticed some of the static pages missing on Boho Bride – they will be back in situ in a few days but I’m updating some of the info…and with that in mind I welcome any feedback from my readers as now is the perfect time to tweak!

Is there anything in particular you’d like to see more of on the blog?

Would you prefer regular features i.e. a mood board every Monday, some Friday link love etc or should I keep things more relaxed?

Let me know by commenting below or email me at sarah@bohobride.co.uk

And now for some shout-outs…

Massive congratulations to The Ivory Secret Bridal Boutique for reaching their 1st Anniversary having packed so much success into their opening year! A Devon bridal shop, Eleanor and Liz Rafferty offer a wonderful service to local brides and in keeping with that are offering 10% off all full priced wedding gowns from the 12th-16th June, so be sure to make an appointment to take advantage of this wonderful offer.

Friend and local photographer Rosie Parsons has launched a wonderful new blog, celebrating all things, well…celebrations! Love Luxe is brimming with pretty and I for one am hooked, so be sure to have a browse.

I am also very proud to announce that I have been shortlisted for the Perfect Wedding Awards 2012 under the category BEST WEDDING BLOG! Introducing Baby Dylan

Apologies for the silence – this post is a long time coming. I am proud to announce that on Sunday 15th April our darling boy Dylan George was born – thirteen fashionable days late he weighed a whopping 8lb 11oz!

It was a difficult labour; 30 hours in total and both Dylan and I came away nursing some war wounds and it’s because of these that I’ve not managed to update the blog until now. Our little man is perfectly healthy and has recovered well and I am also well on my way to being back to my normal self, though an exhausted version!

The last four weeks or so have passed in a blissful haze of baby-ness – though must admit that it has not only been the most rewarding few weeks of my life, it’s been the most challenging too; parenthood is ruddy hard work. On that note I hope you can understand why I’m asking you to bear with me a little longer…the blogging cogs are turning and Boho Bride will be resuming service soon, but I just need a little longer to get on top of things once more.

I hope you understand and thank you so much for your continued support.

With lots of love,

Sarah, Adam and Dylan xxx

Sorry for the Silence…Taking a Baby Break!

Hello All,

I just wanted to check in and apologise for the lack of blogging since last week – some of you might know that I’m due to give birth soon (well, my due date has been and gone actually!) and I’ve decided to take a couple weeks off in order to bed down and make the most of this special time. I’ll of course let you know when baby does make an appearance and as soon as I’ve got my head around being ‘Mummy’ I’ll be back posting pretty with vengeance!

Thank you all so much for your continued support – Boho Bride will be resuming normal services very soon!

On The Move Again…

March 12, 2012 by

Today I’m going to be a little indulgent and write about something that’s not wedding related as this weekend my Mr and I moved from the cottage we have been helping my folks do up over the past 18 months. A character cottage dating back some 250 years it’s been in our family since 1940 and belonged to my Great Aunt who I was very close to.

We moved here when my Dad was ill and only intended to stay in Devon long enough to do it up – how things have changed. Dad is in remission and Adam and I not only married whilst living here, but started new businesses, got new jobs and created a new life within these walls. My Aunt was unable to have children of her own, so I feel really strongly that this little life was meant to be and meant to happen here.

It’s been an absolute privilege to live in this pretty little Devon nook and we will miss it madly. We haven’t moved far as this corner of the world is where we’d like to raise our son, but we need a place with a little more space! Anyway here’s some photo’s from the cosy cottage we’re saying goodbye to…

I know I’ll be taking all the lovely feelings from this house to our next – but thanks for the memories Auntie Flo xxx

Happy Friday!

Hello All,

I am so sorry for the lack of posting today but I hope you enjoy this gorgeous image via Ruffled…how lovely is that sign? My failure to blog is largely due to today marking the start of my maternity leave {eek!} – it was my last day at work yesterday and I was incredibly spoilt by the company I work for & all the lovely ladies I work with, as they threw me a vintage inspired, surprise high tea/leaving do!

My hubby and I also signed on a new pad, as with a heavy heart, we have decided to leave the teeny tiny but oh-so-cosy cottage we’ve been lovingly restoring with my parents {it belonged to my great Aunt and has been in our family for over 70 yrs} in favour of renting a family-sized home in the most welcoming and lovely to villages…We spent most of our evening there, getting excited about all the memories we’re going to make in our new home with baby, but I returned far too exhausted to do justice to any features on the blog.

Be sure to tune in next week though – in honour of all the romantic proposals that have taken place this past month thanks to Valentine’s and leap year, I’ll be blogging an array of beautiful engagement shoots!

I hope you all have a relaxing and fun weekend…any plans? I’ll be whipping out my marigolds!

Announcing the Launch of Boho Living!

February 9, 2012 by

Hello Peeps – a happy Thursday to you all!

I’ve been sitting on an exciting announcement from Boho HQ for a few weeks now and can’t contain myself any longer - on Monday I’ll be launching my newest blog! It’s been in the works for some time {I’ve been planning it for as long as I’ve been writing Boho Bride} but due to our wedding plans and work commitments there was no way I was going to water down the time I spent over here to take on a new project…

However, with a little bundle of joy on the way and having wound down my hours as a freelance writer to concentrate on my family and my own projects, it seems like the perfect time to launch Boho Living! A lifestyle blog to run alongside this one, it will cover everything else beyond weddings…fashion, food, interior design, baby chat and more – it’s really an extension of my styling business and follows life after wedding vows.

For those newly engaged and planning weddings – I will not only be keeping up the posts on Boho Bride but I am also now able to dedicate more time to it – and for those who have married or are perhaps on the cusp of celebrating their wedding , I really hope you’ll join me at my new second home!

With Love,

The One Where I’m On Bed-Rest…

Happy Friday all!

First things first I’d like to wish my gorgeous husband a very Happy Birthday…ten years ago today he was turning 24 {you can do the math!} and we had tentatively started dating – how time flies! Now a married man with baby on the way. Hubby – I continue to be in awe of you and am so proud of the man you’ve become, thank you for choosing me to share the journey of life with you! xxx

And now on to my man’s B’day wish…it appears our little man is somewhat eager to meet his parents and having spent the last few days showing signs of early labour {I’m due April 2nd} I have been placed on bed-rest to try and stem things from progressing further – please stay put for a wee while yet my love.

With that in mind I aim to dedicate my newly discovered spare time planning ahead for Boho Bride so I’ve the opportunity to take some time out with little one {Dutt as we call him – an affectionate Welsh term for little} once he’s arrived…

So, if any of you would like to contribute to Boho Bride – I’m on the look out for features! Weddings, shoots, inspiration, suppliers to feature…you know the drill. Please feel free to get in touch and if your story suits – I’ll publish! Also, if there are any planning Boho Bride’s who fancy trying their hand at some guest blogging – I’d be honoured to share your plans. Contact me at sarah@bohobride.co.uk

Have a great weekend!

With Love,

Sarah, Boho Bride xx
