Free Wedding Photography Competition Winners! Abigail & Pete’s Canterbury Tales Engagement Shoot

June 22, 2011

A few weeks ago I ran a competiton for free wedding photography from the lovely Louise Bjorling, who was looking for couples planning an unusual wedding…I was so chuffed to hear that Louise had not only heard from Boho Bride readers, but that it was a couple who’d discovered my blog on the very day that I ran the competiton who actually went on to win! They have the most wonderful wedding ideas, here’s there story…

From Louise – “Abigail and Pete stumbled upon their wedding venue as they where browsing around their new surroundings near Canterbury, kent. Tucked away in the woods they found Chilham, a village consisting of old wooden houses, featuring a small castle and a 300 years old, timber framed village hall. Having just moved from the city, they realised how lovely this could be as a wedding venue.

From there, their ideas started to grow, turning their wedding day into an old style English country garden fetes. Think Darling buds of May and lots of DIY – to realize their romantic village hall fetes style, friends and families are coming together to create almost everything from scratch!”

From Abigail -  We were both really surprised when we found out we had made the final three and excited about our upcoming photo shoot. We spent time walking around our local area…Kent is full of spectacular places so we were spoilt for choice about where to have our photos!

When our photos went up on Louise’s blog it was soooo exciting! I was so impressed with how Louise had captured our personalities and a feel of our life in Kent in the photos. I felt sure we wouldn’t win but was so touched by some of the comments from people we didn’t even know!

We were in London when we found out we had won – in a pub we had gone to on one of our very first dates! It was a great moment and I phoned my mum straight away to share the good news! We feel so lucky to have this opportunity and it has made everyone very excited about our wedding! I am really happy that Louise will be capturing our moments and can’t wait for her to share our day!”

Here is just a snippet {yes there’s even more} of the gorgeous DIY details that crowned them as winners…

♥ Instead of buying/hiring bunting, my friends and I are collecting and using old bitsof material to make the bunting. Using pieces of fabrics from my childhood and old clothes makes the bunting extra special. My friends and I are having sewing parties (with tea and cake!) to make it fun!

♥ In decorating the hall we are using traditional hops found in Kent (which are usually thrown away in August) to sweep the large beams in the village hall.

♥ Our cake goes by the same theme, following inspiration from my late Grandmother whomade her own wedding cake, I want to follow in her footsteps – it is a great project and I love making cakes for friends and family to devour!

♥ Instead of buying lots of Champagne I am making Elderflower Champagne next month using the flowers around our area, with second hand glass bottles (painted bright colours – pink, aqua and lime with glass paint)!

♥ As an alternative to having place mats or order of service leaflets, we will use my Dads great artistic skills to make fantastically colourful chalkboards which give all the guests the itinerary on the way in!

♥ For our invites we are designing them with my Mum and handwriting them on recycled brown paper…

♥ To finish the night off we will also have  Chinese lanterns, which do not harm to the environment. I will no doubt be enjoying the view with my wonderful partner on a rustic hand made swing – bliss!

♥ Pete, who makes light projected backdrops for events, will create a light pattern and have it projected onto the inside ceiling of the village hall! He will create a themed design together with my illustration artist father.

♥ By using all things good and natural, whether hand made or bought organically, this will be a wedding for celebration, for our guests to be rewarded with delicious food and gifts, and to go home filled with happiness!

*Swoon* I’m more than just a little bit in love with this couple…Huge congratulations to Abigail and Pete – I adore your crafty wedding plans! And a big thank you to Louise for kindly sharing her talents with Boho Bride readers; to find out more about Louise, visit her website!

With Love, Boho Bride xx
