The Boho Groom Blog Takeover – Boho Bride’s Surprise Hen Do!

July 29, 2011 by

To the Boho Bride loyal readers, something a bit different today…

Hi, I’m Adam and in around six weeks (oh god, I still haven’t sorted out my wedding suit yet!) will be getting married to Sarah who writes this blog. I guess you all know her as Boho Bride…which I find quite weird but also cute and I’m very proud of what she’s achieved!

Now you may be wondering where Sarah is and why she isn’t writing this post, well she has been completely unaware that I have been plotting with her mates for months a surprise hen do, she thought her hen-do was going to be in September, so imagine her surprise yesterday afternoon when her 2 friends showed up outside our house and knocked the door recreating  the classic ‘card scene’ in Love Actually between Andrew Lincoln and Keira Knightley, only this time it was Kim and Nat explaining what was going on!

On hearing she was to pack and leave home for a couple days, her only panic was that nothing was going to be on the blog  -- so I decided to step up and takeover.

Right now she’s on a plane headed towards Dublin.

It’s taken me a good hour of staring at the screen to think about what I should write and have decided that the subject should be about women on their hen do’s, cos there’s always plenty of coverage on stags.

So here my big confession. You women might worry about us blokes on our stags, but we worry just as much about you. Fact. And I don’t mean in an insecure sense -- I mean genuine worry for her well being. Here is why:

Sarah is a lightweight. When we first met, she was pretty good at keeping up with the lads, she used to drink snake bite. Imagine, this little blond thing, with tiny hands holding a pint of snake bite. Impressive. She now really only drinks in a social environment, maybe every couple of weeks, so if we’re having a blow-out night it now gets very messy as she’s not used to it. She also vomits a lot, (ok to use that word = too harsh?) our friends cream carpet is testament to that and her preference for red wine.

She has no sense of direction, sober or otherwise.

She gets hyper when she dances, especially when she hears a song she likes. There has been many a ‘dance off’ in Cardiff’s Tiger Tiger and my Mrs can make a whole nightclub some to a stand-still with her comical moves. Normally not a bad thing, but at a friends recent hen do, she spent the whole night dancing with some big bear of a bloke who moved like Billy Elliot and she failed to notice that the ankle she’s messed up (a torn ligament) which she should be resting had tripled in size. She came home in agony with a clubbed foot. Actually clubbed like you see old ladies have, spilling out of her shoe.

She worries about whether other people are having fun, sometimes to the detriment of her own enjoyment.

So if you do get a chance to read this honey, relax and enjoy. Your with your favourite people for a whole weekend celebrating a wedding that’s been a decade in the making (sorry about that)…just please don’t come home with another tooth missing!

…I’ll save that story for another day.

Adam.

PS. as long as nothing awful happens the boho bride blog should be back to normal on Monday, if maybe a little worse for wear!

A Rustic Provence Styled Shoot

This is the kind of styled photoshoot that makes my heart ache…in the best possible way. Relaxed yet beautiful styling, inspired by natures palette, it proves that a wedding can be best dressed when a Bride and Groom have the confidence to let their surroundings do the talking.

Captured perfectly by Andrea & Marcus and beautifully styled by Andrea herself, I adore everything about it; the light, the story it tells….oh and the Sarah Seven dress! Swoon…

And here’s who made it happen: Submitted via Two Bright Lights; Photographer, Andrea And Marcus; Styled and planned by Andrea of Andrea And Marcus; Dress by Sarah Seven

I’m more than a little in love with this wedding goodness; how about you?

Paper Crane Love – Wedding Decoration

In Japan it is said that when a couple receives a gift of 1000 origami paper cranes, they will receive 1000 years of happiness and prosperity and that those who open a crane will be granted a wish…

Don’t you just love that idea? I love discovering the symbolism behind such customs – it’s a wonderful way to incorporate tradition into a modern wedding! What do you think?

Boho Bride Loves….

July 25, 2011 by

Aside from all the wonderful wedding-ness, there are plenty of other loves in my life – and they are the things that keep me sane when times are crazily hectic. And so, I haven’t posted my ‘Sunday Best’ for a couple of weeks, though it might be nice to share some Monday loves with you …

♥ Music. Perhaps my biggest love {aside from people and furry beings} I realised this week that I hadn’t played any for a wee while. Amazing how much better, happier, calmer I feel when I hear some music and have a bit of a sing in the shower or whilst making dinner. I’ve eclectic taste, but really love the sound of an acoustic guitar. Jack Johnson’s In Between Dreams is still a firm favourite in our house.

♥ Loungewear. I change into mine as soon as it hits 6pm. I no longer buy my own, but encourage my fiance to buy plenty for himself, then nick his…much more comfortable! M&S loungwear is the best.

♥ Reading. Nothing beats a good bit of escapism before bed – really clears a busy mind. I’ve just joined a book club {aka wine club} and this months book was so good I’m actually upset that I’ve finished it already. David Nichols, One Day. Film is out in Aug, but I reacon nothing beats turning the crisp white pages of a good book.

♥ Cooking. We rarely eat on-the-go. Not because I’m some kind of Superwoman, but I actuallylike to give myself an hour to prepare a meal. It’s so theraputic and really clears my mind. Lorraine Pascale is my latest girl-crush, her toad-in-the-hole recipe is perfect for a rainy day.

♥ Cats. And dogs. But we have cats and their unconditional love and the kooky things they do always fills my heart with happiness.

♥ Guerlain Idylle Duet. I came across the limited edition scent whilst at the airport last week. First scent in years to turn my head from my signiture Coco Mademoiselle. Very light and feminine, there’s a great review on The Scent Critic. Think I’ll be waering it on my wedding day.

♥ Films. I’m a total geek when it comes to films; recent favouite’s include The Kings Speech, Source Code and Cedar Falls.

And there you have it. So what loves do you have that keep you sane? Any Brides out there discovered a new favourite recipe or are escaping into a good book, in order to take your mind of wedding plans?

Alternative Bridal Jackets and Cover-Ups

Filed under get the look, wedding style

I really feel the cold and with skin so pale I’m already quite blue, it’s pretty clear a bridal jacket, coat, cardie is needed to keep me warm at our wedding reception. Over the last year I’ve oogled many a Bride wearing a funky coat or stole and with a lack of luck on Ebay (yes, there’s been a fair few bidding wars this week) I have turned my attention toward what the high street has to offer. Here’s what I found…

Top L-R: Oyster Crepe Unstructured Jacket from Topshop; Cream Beaded Jacket from Miss Selfridge; Leather Sequin Jacket from Warehouse; Embellished Jacket, Warehouse.

Happy weekend! With Love, Boho Bride xx

Chinese Wedding Inspiration – Homage to Baz Luhrmanns Australia

July 21, 2011 by

Inspired by the gorgeous party scene in Luhrmann’s beautiful epic film Australia, as a child growing up in Asia this is the kind of wedding I imagined myself having. How things change! But I still absolutely love this style. So feminine, yet vibrant it’s a wonderful wedding style to channel. Think cheongsam dresses, orchids in abundance, personalised chopsticks, lots of ‘lucky’ red…and a chinese feast of course!

The flame colours would be perfect for an Autumn wedding!

A DIY Day-After Wedding Shoot

Day-after wedding shoots are another genius wedding concept from across-the-pond that’s starting to gain in popularity with UK couples. A chance for Brides and Grooms to have some intimate {and fun} snaps in the wake of wedding bliss, once the hectic day itself has passed…

Todays shoot is from Tara Welch Photography via Two Bright Lights and it’s brimming with pretty. From the swoonworthy colours to the kooky DIY details, there’s so much of Autumn and Adam’s personality in these stunning images. They’ve certainly inspired me, so enjoy!

I’m so in love with those streamers! The Bride and Groom are artists – I think you can tell, they’ve a real eye for colour. You can have a peek of more of Tara’s stunning images here

Our wedding is set to be brimming with colour, so I’ve been exploring the idea of adding some punchy shades to our place settings; whether it’s through layering patterned crockery, using flowers and tags or even a colourful napkin! Here’s my inspiration…

A Handmade, Eco-chic, Hawaiian Retreat Wedding

July 18, 2011 by

Love these images from Karen Louden Photography via Two Bright Lights. Epitomising all I love about relaxed weddings – doesn’t Margaux and Colin’s celebration look a fun? Adore the vibrant colour, the eco-chic {handmade} styling and the oh-so-gorgeous couple!

Here’s what Karen had to say “Combining Margaux’s love of vintage fashion with Colin’s laid back beach attitude, they created the perfect outdoor affair on a cliff overlooking the ocean in Hawi…

Almost every detail was handmade. Officiant: Mom; Cake: Mom; Dress: handmade by GRANDMA! Flowers: family firend grew them and Bride, Bridal party and Groom (!) created the arrangements as well as creating the invitations too. Glassware was purchased from thrift stores and the packaging and table settings were biodegradable from Sustainable Island Products.”
