Homespun Wedding Inspiration – Mood Board Monday!

Today I’m celebrating my favourite kind of wedding – the homespun kind! I adore the personal details couples can add through a diy wedding; so creative and brimming with personalilty, they tend to exude so much warmth and joy. Think cute and kooky details, like home-made signs, personalised favours and design elements crafted by the couple themselves…

The rules are – there are no rules! No set colour palette to adhere to and no set plans really…anything goes at a homespun wedding!

Our Wedding Countdown – Three Months Today!

Another month, another countdown post. I’m afraid readers of this blog might find it hard to escape my own wedding plans as I draw ever closer to W-day…

I’ve received some amazing emails and comments from other planning Brides of late and it’s been such a relief to connect with those sharing the same highs and lows of planning their nuptials – thank you so much!

Today feels weirdly cathartic for me as yesterday marked the end of a very busy time, both at work and play…but I find that as my mind clears from a heavy work-load and turns towards the wedding – the silly anxieties start to take hold as I begin to acknowledge the pressure of ensuring I look on my game…on the big day!

Three months isn’t much time at all and there are many things I’d like to improve on, so I decided to put myself ‘out-there’ and share. But, with bad comes good and I’m not about to publicly berate myself, merely share and hopefully strike a chord with others feeling the same way…you are not alone!!!

The bad bits…

Introducing Dornellie Veils

Those who are regular readers have probably gathered that I have a ‘thing’ for veils and it saddens me that my own wedding is so relaxed, I can’t really get away with channeling my inner Duchess Kate! My passion for these elegant accessories is also shared with former costume designer Karen Robb, founder of Dornellie Veils…

“I want to re-educate all brides when it comes to choosing a veil. Not to keep it as a final afterthought but to make it an integral part of the wedding outfit. Many retailers have a small supply of basic nets on combs with no character or design and only concentrate on the dress without realising who much more romance and beauty is added with a veil. The Royal Wedding only goes to prove this as the veil was an amazing addition and totally finished the dress. I too was ‘totally finished, in floods of tears at how beautiful she looked”

Named after her maternal Grandmother Dora Nellie, a Milliner, Karen’s gorgeous designs are full of theatrical drama and as they are made to order, clients can have their veil made to their own requirements. To find out more about Karen and her beautiful veils, make sure you drop by her website.

We’ve finally sent out our wedding invitations and I just had to share them with you! Karen and Ben from Wedding Tea Towels created the most uh-mazing design for our day and perfectly captured the relaxed, fun feel we aim to have. So cool and oh-so-cute, our wedding tea towels have caused quite a stir amongst our guests; I’ve just had to share some of their feedback below…

That is by far and away the best wedding invite ever! So clever, I love it – I’m going to frame it!

Best wedding invite ever!

Your invite is fantastic, so original, so you!

OMG I LOVE the invite – so fantastic…we’re going to use it tonight!

What a creative idea…can’t wait to see what other treats the wedding brings!

A+ for originality!

By far the most exciting part of our wedding so far – I’ve loved hearing our friends reaction to our tea-towel-tastic invites! It’s also been so fantastic to know that our wedding invites are eco-friendly and the most beautiful keep-sake too. I couldn’t recommend them any higher!

Choose between bespoke creations and classic designs – there’s even a new boutique collection too. For maximum inpact and alternative wedding style, The Original Wedding Tea Towel is a must!

I’m Having A Striped Straw Moment…

I ♥ striped straws…they rock my world! Here’s some inspiration…

Of late, I’ve seen them featured heavily {and beautifully} in photo shoots, yet there’s not many UK stockists. Papermash sell the style that’s stolen my heart, but at present, only in grey, red or blue . The US sell an array of vibrant colours and Etsy is always a good bet!

It’s official – I now have a new girl crush on the down-to-earth…yet oh-so ethereal-looking beautiful British Bride, Lily Allen. She pulled a blinder this weekend! The lovely Lily went up in my estimations when I watched her TV programme and caught myself swooning over every single piece of furniture and artwork in her home {the girl has impeccable taste} and now, having witnessed her wedding style credentials, I can’t help but hail my new, favourite celebrity Bride!

Choosing a Delphine Manivet creation {which looks like it was inspired by her Raphael gown}, deliciously accessorised with a co-ordinating veil, from the collection, singer Lily channeled modest country wedding elegance in abundance! Teamed with blousy ‘English country garden’ flowers and Bridesmaids in flattering soft peach tones, Lily Allen’s wedding hit all the right style notes with me!

And rumour has it the fun-loving couple hosted a festival style post-wedding bash in luxury Tipi’s…oh be still my beating heart! I salute you Lily!!!

Mad Hatter’s Photo Shoot – Styled Shoot for The Millbrook Estate

June 10, 2011 by
Filed under inspiration, styled photo shoot

Today I have the pleasure of unveiling the photo shoot I styled for The Millbrook Estate, in collaboration with Lucy Shergold Photography. As I said in yesterdays post this all came about when we met the lovely Kate and Bob Boothby, who own Millbrook and decided to create a shoot that showed off their beautiful and quirky grounds…and so Bob came up with the Mad Hatter’s theme, as it meant we could incorporate some of the estate’s more unusual features – and have some fun! You can see the inspiration board here

A great excuse to meet and work with some very talented local suppliers; Lucy and I were introduced by the Boothby’s to the lovely Leisa of Devon Catering, who supplied the pretty (and very tasty) cupcakes and we also took the opportunity to invite Sarah Bayley of Two Green Monkeys, who came on board to show off some of her gorgeous crafts, as well as uber talented florist Allene Daly and the wonderful hair stylist Claire Mathers of Creative Wedding Hair, both of whom I’ve booked for my own wedding!

We decided that this shoot should be about how couples can best use the venue for their wedding day, the look needed to be inspirational yet attainable…that was our priority and so we chose not to borrow any wedding gowns or jewellery – instead our aim was to show off how to use the space, inspired by the surroundings…

Mad Hatter Mood Board for the Millbrook Estate

Some months ago, photographer Lucy Shergold and I were invited to take a look around a small and intimate North Devon wedding venue, The Millbrook Estate. Owners Kate and Bob Boothby have worked tirelessly over the last few years to create a relaxing haven in Devon and following our introductions to each other, an idea was born to collaborate on a photo shoot that showed off the quirkiness of the unique and beautiful Millbrook grounds.

Here’s the inspiration board I created for our Mad Hatter shoot…

I got to work with some amazing suppliers and will be showing the results on the blog tomorrow. Be sure to drop by to check out the results!
