Eve Appeal Tea Party – Lucy Shergold Photography

Way back in April {10th} Devon photographer and dear friend, Lucy Shergold hosted an afternoon party “Make Time for Tea” in aid of the wonderful Eve Appeal and cancer awareness month. A chance for the wedding women of North Devon to meet up and eat cake, a fair few of us joined Lucy in her beautiful home. Vintage crockery was sourced from local charity shops, garden flowers were picked and cakes were hand baked; here are some images from the day…

Everyone attending, kindly brought something home-made of from their wedding business, so we had a range of beautiful goodies to enjoy – by either eating or swooning over! The total raised was £70.

Those involved were as follows: Lucy Shergold; Juicy Lucy Cupcakes; SweetpeaVintage; The Millbrook Estate; Frilly Frocks; 2 Green Monkeys and Blackbird and Bear. Special thanks also to Lucy’s Mum, Sister, Husband and friends who also brought so much loveliness and to World Inspired Tents, and Allene Daly, who provided us with some cards for the goodie bags and The Atelier Gallery, who donated the gorgeous raffle prize.

I’ve found myself drawn to feathers of late – I recently bought a beautiful feather necklace from Urban Outfitters, soon followed by a fedora featuring a pheasant feather {get me and my awesome alliteration!}…and now I’m trying to find an excuse to buy this!

In homage to the ‘moment’ I’m currently having, here’s some feather love…

Surf Wedding Inspiration – Surf Mood Board

With the wedding season in full swing, I thought it apt to pay homage to the kind of wedding I’d expect to witness in my corner of the world. Relaxed and informal, a surf inspired wedding is just my cup of tea – no need for too much decor, let the beautiful coastline do the talking and simply add a few well placed details, like a surfboard guestbook or a wedding sign made from driftwood…

Styling Help for a Sydney Bride – Wedding Style SOS!

Yesterday I received an email from the lovely Anna who’s in need of a little help with styling her venue…

“We’re getting married in the Autumn and I’m in the midst of all the planning now.  I already feel like ‘if I had my time again’, which is not ideal.  I’m really excited about so many factors but I’m no longer excited about my venue.

We’ve chosen a seaside chapel in Sydney Australia – and it is truly gorgeous.  We will walk directly from the chapel into a large acoustic hall right next door.  It will be a noon reception and we have great views of the ocean …. it is just that the hall we are in is bland and large and almost impossible to decorate.  I can’t hang anything from the ceiling or from the walls.  Goodbye paper lanterns and inexpensive, abundant pom poms.  I’ve gotten on to lovely big round balloons – so seriously thinking of working with these.

I’m wearing a vintage style dress with original vintage (30′s) shoes covered in blue silk with some original deco shoe clips from France ……… these are the exciting meaningful things.  The venue – unfortunately still drab.

Ideas Sarah, do you have any ideas on how to bring some scale into this BIG space?”

Firstly, congratulations Anna and so far plans sound amazing! Your venue looks awesome – that window!!!

I’d say, let the window and view do the talking…you can bring elements in that’ll add enough wow factor. The balloons for me are a sure-fire hit! Pick some of the blue hues out of the stained glass window, which you’ve already picked up on on your shoes and add long, weighted strings so that they sit about a foot and a half above your heads as you walk down the aisle.

They’ll look almost ethereal bobbing there and should give enough colour without pulling focus from the view and stained glass.

I’d then add all other interest in things you can take with you to the reception. Perhaps hand tied bouquets and have blue ribbons hanging gown from them – echoing the balloons.

For the reception – add interest on the tables. How about collecting lots of vintage glassware to echo the stained glass – you could add flowers to those for colour too. Also, the balloons can make an appearance and be placed up against a wall or float above tables. Also, play with people’s eye-line and stack things up {on vintage books perhaps} or add colourful flags into the mix.

Most of all, fall back in love with that venue – it’s so easy to get bogged down at this stage of planning, but I bet if you imagine walking down the aisle towards your beloved and that stunning view – you’ll still get a tummy jump!

All the very best…and please keep in touch with your plans. With Love, Boho Bride xx

Introducing A Little Birdie – Handmade Wedding Stationery

May 18, 2011 by

Swoon! Isn’t this just the most delicious wedding stationery? I was delighted to see an email from Corinne pop up in my inbox on Friday 13th! Unlucky for some, it made my day and her gorgeous designs put such a smile on my face. Introducing A Little Birdie…

Designer Corinne has recently returned to the UK after 7 years in San Francisco, working for paper boutique Union Street Papery; ” I was surrounded by so many gorgeous invitations and gifts; I couldn’t help but get a twinkle in my eye. With so many happy brides to be, getting excited about their invitations and planning for their big day, it was infectious.

I love creating something unique and different each time I use the letterpress. I never know exactly what effect it will create. I love that my machine was made over a hundred years ago, in Cramlington, a small town in the North of England, near my family. It ties me to this countryside. I like the traditional process but I want my cards to be playful and modern too.”

And the oh-so-cute name? I worked with a lot of girls at the printing boutique and we were always gossiping and chirping like the birds outside my window, so one day it occurred to me to name my shop A Little Birdie. When you open a card it’s like a little bird is chirping good news in your ear.”

A Little Birdie offers bespoke, custom design, digital & letterpress wedding invitations, stationery, announcements and much more and all the pieces are custom made. For a free, personalised sample, and to find out more about these gorgeous designs, please visit the website.

Thanks so much for sharing Corinne! With Love, Boho Bride xx

Our Wedding – Four Months Today!

May 17, 2011 by

Last night it dawned on me that in four months time we’ll be saying our vows, so I thought I’d take the opportunity to blog about how I’m feeling about the impending celebrations…

I have found it much harder work than I could have ever imagined. I don’t know if that’s a normal or abnormal feeling, but I can spend hours excitedly creating inspiration boards, styling photo shoots and giving advice to other planning Brides, but for myself? Nada. This is how bad it’s got…

♥ I’ve yet to create a mood board for our wedding – though I have a file on my laptop that’s brimming with saved images that I love.  My fear is that I adore so many things, the wedding will look like it’s having an identity crisis – or that I’ve vomited an eclectic mix of rustic, whimsical, bohemia with elements of folk all over the place. The general ‘theme’ {not a fan of that word} is ‘stuff we love’.

♥ I’ve only just started booking things for the wedding and still haven’t made a single piece of decor – though I do have a box of bits I’ve already stashed, which I’ll dig into…and I’ll borrow stuff from my folks too {thanks Mum} to save pennies! Again, worried ‘old curiosity shop’  and ‘musty’ might be used to describe my styling.

♥ Although I’ve sent masses of ‘inspirational’ images to my B’maids only two of five have dresses.

♥ My Groom hasn’t even considered his attire yet.

♥ My Dad is so begrudged to spend money – he wants to wear a suit he’s owned for years, circa 1970…it doesn’t look vintage…it looks tragic.

♥ Every time we sit down to read through ceremony/vow choices, we get distracted and end up creating our own alternative ‘I love you more than….’ stupid versions. It’s not big and it’s not clever – it just wastes time.

♥ I’m running regularly to fit my bottom and thighs into my form-fitting dress….then promptly rewarding myself with a carb mountain. My weight isn’t increasing…but it isn’t decreasing either.

♥ I’m having a recurring dream; I wake up, it’s the day of our wedding and I’ve not organised anything, so have to blag it all.

♥ I’ve developed a twitch in my left eye.

Brides-to-be…how are your plans going?
