My Folks 40th Anniversary

On Easter Sunday, my parents celebrated their Ruby wedding anniversary, 40 years of being married. They spent the day together, enjoyed a blessing at church and celebrated with us in the evening. My camera shy Mum didn’t want any photo’s taken, so to ensure we had some images for posterity, we took some impromptu shots of our evening without capturing Ma sans make-up…

It’s not been an easy run of late for my parents, which makes it all the more special to have spent some time celebrating with them. Congratulations Mum and Dad!

Caroline Fricker Couture – Beautiful Handmade Wedding Gowns

Today I’ve the pleasure of featuring a local wedding dress designer, who’s stunning work has really turned my head. I first noticed these beautiful frocks in the pages of a recent issue of Wed Magazine and have been swooning over the gowns ever since! North Devon based Caroline Fricker has returned to designing after raising her children and has created a contemporary and stylish new collection featuring the finest silks, organzas and embroidered chiffons…

“My gowns are a combination of strong design and beautiful execution. I am inspired by all things beautiful, especially fabric. Much of my inspiration comes from feeling cloth.

I have over 20 years experience in my trade and my creative and original designs are supported by my knowledge of couture methods and beautiful decorative finishes. You need not choose one of my Collection Pieces, as I will be delighted to design for you, personally. Each bride is encouraged to express her own personal sense of style, and together we will look at design, fabrics and colour schemes.

I am also happy to meet with ‘Last Minute’ brides, as I find this can be an exciting and creative.  So, don’t lose hope when others close their order books, I would like to make your time with me fun and relaxed.

All gowns are illustrated by me and can be purchased as an attractive keepsake.”

Thanks so much for sharing Caroline!

Adam and Louise’s Beautiful Wedding Film…

Regular readers might know I’ve a bit of a ‘thing’ for the gorgeous Through The Cottage Door online store and website…it’s just so darn pretty! Owners Bron and Lis are friends of the blog and I’d happily call them friends of mine too, so it seemed crazy to have known prior to last week that Bron’s husband is actually Mark Lenik the Creative Director of Lenik Media Wedding Films…

When Bron sent a link to this film last week I knew I had to share it. Not only was I in tears after watching this beautiful video, but felt compelled to send it to my OH, knowing that he’d be impressed at the sheer brilliance of it’s composition.  An immersive and evokative cinematic experience, it’s like watching a film trailor or teaser…so much so, I’m now willing the full length film to be released asap!

Grab the tissues ladies, here’s Adam and Louise’s Wedding courtesy of Lenik Media Wedding Films…

Traditional English Wedding with a Colonial African Twist – Mood Board for Ivy

April 21, 2011 by

Today’s board is dedicated to Ivy, who contacted me with a request for some help with creating the perfect palette for her traditional English wedding this August. Here’s what Ivy had to say…

“I am really struggling to get my colours to work in my head. I originally wanted a yellow wedding (I LOVE YELLOW!!!), but I found that yellow & white can be quite a flat, boring pallet. My husband-to-be ONLY likes the colour blue though (of the light variety), so I thought it’d be a nice idea to marry the two – and strangely add in a hint of creamy peach.

Matthew & I are getting married in a very cute teeny English church in Buckinghamshire & then having our reception at Hedsor House – picture green fields/big old mansion house. We’re planning on having a traditional / elegant wedding – but FUN & laid back. I’m originally from South Africa so will have a lot of family flying over for the do – thought it’d be a nice idea to mix the English with the African & have a colonial/quirky feel.”

Ivy sent me some gorgeous images to help me along the way, one was of their venue (top of the board) and I also got a peek at the couple behing this request…a seriously gorgeous pair!

My aim was to find images that softened the look – as Ivy mentioned she found the pairing of white & yellow too harsh. The blue might only add to the cool tones, so I think adding a hint of peach is an inspired idea! The beautiful venue commands respect, but by adding a vintage {colonial inspired} edge to the styling, Ivy and Matthew can afford to have some fun and include little treats like an ice-cream van or quirky {zebra print sock!} details.

Huge congratulations to Ivy and Matthew and keep us posted with your wedding news!

A Sneeky Peek – Our Charity Calendar Shoot

Todays post is a personal one, but all for a wonderful cause….On the 3rd of March I took part in a charity calendar shoot in aid of Help for Heroes and PC David Rathband’s The Blue Lamp Foundation. The Social Sirens Tweet Girls Charity Calendar was born from some light-hearted banter on Twitter, which led to Gina of By Gina Events taking the helm to create a shoot that spanned four counties; bringing us brave birds of tweet-land together in order to take our kits off for a worthy cause!

An incredibly liberating experience, those of us who took part not only bonded in our smalls – but boosted each others ego’s, banishing all thoughts of our own insecurities. It was fun, light-hearted and the most wonderful opportunity to meet fabulously gorgeous and inspiring women in the wedding industry. Here’s some behind the scene peeks…

Wedding Therapy – Bridesmaid Dress Bother

A couple  weeks ago I received the loveliest email from Kait who was needing a little help with finding boho style bridesmaid dresses. Here’s what she had to say…

“I love reading your blog which I discovered when I got engaged last year, its so cool that there are others out there who love the same ideas, look, images, pieces and visions as I do, so thank YOU for creating this blog its truly inspirational !

I wonder if your able to help me with a small problem I have, well I say small in a laid back kind of way but its pretty important really ! I’m getting married on 24th June this year and STILL have no bridesmaid dresses…you see I managed to land myself in the hospital after a freak accident involving a glass and a lost finger (which has been saved by the way phew!) but its caused me quite a few months out of wedding stuff and now its safe to say I’m in a bit of a pickle… it also isn’t helping that what I’m after seems not to exist !

So here’s the challenge to you and anyone out there who can help…my colours  are purples, lilacs, cream, silver and grey flowers/foliage in the wildflower/rustic country garden sense and my fiance’s suit is pale grey. The mission is to find a very pale lilac almost dove grey bridesmaid dress ( 3 of ! ) in a boho style to tie it all together…

Can you please help as I’m hopeful you will know exactly where to look ! Oh and i am looking to spend no more than £100 per dress (cheaper if poss!)

I wait with baited breath that you can help! Kait xx”

Of course I was happy to make a few suggestions and it gave me a great excuse to do some virtual shopping! So here’s what I came up with…

If anyone’s got any alternative suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment – it’s always nice to discover new places to shop! And ladies, feel free to email me with your questions and plans…it’s always lovely to hear from other planning Brides!
